The Adminstrators of Early America

Katharine "Delphine" Mak

Webmaster, Shadows of the Past

The Brainchild

Bored people don't think very often, but I had the good fortune to. I play a lot of online games, everything from Age of Empires II to simple messageboard based games kind of like this one (although not as well organized). I decided that I ought to make one for myself, and so I did. I wanted a little jump from the mainstream genres of roleplaying games: fantasy, science fiction, animals...so why not something...almost...*gasp* could it be?...educational? Ok, so I don't like to use that word. But who said history had to be boring?

I think I decided on the American Revolution because it's always held a kind of...romance, if you will....for me. I try not to look at history as the dry stuff you get in a conventional social studies class. Because it's not. It's a passionate human drama written by unique and colourful characters. You just have to take the initiative and look beyond that stuffy crust that's presented you in socials.

The Authoring

I built my personal homepage and have received training in Adobe PageMill™. After getting in touch with my friend, Lady Columbia (see below), who agreed to be the chief of board administration, I began designing our humble little corner of cyberspace. And here it is, the genuine article. I'm not planning to commission any other webmasters, though in the future we're thinking about finding worthy members to become assistant board administrators. Hmm. Well. That's just a bit about my career here online.

Lady Columbia

Chief of Board Administration, Shadows of the Past

Jumping on the Bandwagon

I guess you could call it that. After all, it was Delphine's brilliant idea. What I mean is, I didn't even know what to do until she approached me and said, "Hey, how'd you like to be the board administrator for my new RPG?" So I said, "Heck, why not?" And here we are. A living, breathing RPG. Well, maybe not living, and maybe not breathing, but an RPG.

Scouting Out the Opportunities

Chief of Board Administration is a lot of work. I set up and manage the BoardPro accounts that we use to run the RP and OOC messageboards. I need to check back at least once every week to make sure everything is functioning correctly, and there aren't any people I need to kick off. I need to make sure everyone's accounts are up-to-date, and their passwords are entered into every board's database. It's a handful, but Delphine doesn't have it much easier. She designed it, after all.

This was fun...so far. I hope you players don't make too much trouble...*growls*...hah, I won't bite. Well, we're on our feet now and searching for players. If you or a friend are the kinds of people who'd like a themed RPG like this, join! Goodness knows we need members! (In the future, the first members are the most likely to get administrative positions when we expand!!)
