Rules of Play

Not Very Exciting but We Need 'Em!

All Good Games Should...

As you probably would assume, all games need some semblance of order established by the house rules, and here they are for Shadows of the Past! Failure to conform to these rules may result in a character deletion or a ban from the boards. So logically, we reccommend that you follow them.

House Rules

These are just some general things. It's mostly common sense and courtesy, but you'd be surprised how out-of-hand ferverent roleplayers can get!

1. Swearing. You're in an environment with younger people, adults. Please, no profanity. We want to keep our game clean, kid-friendly and acceptable to everyone. The only thing you can get away with is this: h***, @$$, &c. Those mature enough to know what you're talking about will be able to tell. Those who aren't...well, they don't need to know, do they?

Rules questions should be directed to the webmaster, who also designed the game.

2. Staying In Character. Staying in character is important. Logically, you need to stay in character (IC) when you're in the "Roleplaying Game" (RPG) section. The only place where you're allowed to be out of character (OOC) are, obviously, the OOC boards. There you must use your username that you signed up with. If you forgot it, then just look under "Members" for your characters. Failure to stay IC at all times save on the OOC board will result in character deletion

3. General Courtesies. Be friendly to everyone. You may be a Patriot and the other guy might be a Tory, but don't go too far with your character. Remember, there is another person on the receiving end of your nasty comments. Think before you post. This is not a place to carry on grudges or rub one anothers' face in the dirt. This is a game, and the point is to have fun. If someone is not being courteous to you, then direct your complaints to Lady Columbia on the Suggestions OOC board.

Posting and Playing Your Character

Game stuff.

1. Posting Requirements. When you post, for your name put your character's name, obviously. You do not need to put an email address because it will be archived with your username in the "Members" section. If you are posting OOC on an IC board, just for a brief question, then be sure to add "OOC" in your subject line, or in parenthesis just before the OOC section. In the OOC board, please put your username in the "name" blank.

2. Impersonation. This is a bad thing. You may not impersonate other players...and trust us, we can find out! If you are being impersonated, please notify the administrative staff immediately. The fact that you are being impersonated with appear in the "News" section, and anyone who can contribute to apprehending the culprit will be rewarded with an in-game bonus! Likewise, the impersonator will be punished accordingly.

3. Player-Killing. Player-killing (PK) is, for some, a touchy subject. Some people do not want their characters to be destroyed, for obvious reasons. Many RPGs do the PK thing this way, so this is the policy toward PKing: You may kill a player as long as that player consents to his or her death. To be truly dead, a board administrator must pronounce him or her dead. Then, that character's stats will be deleted from the member's profile and will go in the Book of Years as deceased.
